ABOUT US
We Deliver Enduring Results
Siyaphila Community Based Organisation is based in Qumbu at Mvumelwano village which is 11 kms from Qumbu CBD that is located at Mhlontlo District. Siyaphila started in 1999 as a support group for people who tested HIV positive (PLHIV). Siyaphila was registered as a community-based organisation that continued with support groups of PLWHIV, awareness campaigns and for GBV and Human Rights. At that time there was no treatment and most people were dying without any support and health care programme designed for PLWHIV. HIV/AIDS scourge became a top key driver of Gender Based Violence (GBV)..
In 2005 started operating supporting the Department of Health initiatives on the rollout of HAART and on the establishment of PMTCT programme, which was later followed by other programmes such as MMC.
On the other hand gender based violence cases were escalating without strong interventions of eliminating it. Regardless of statues and laws and pieces of law legislators or Acts such as The Criminal Law –Sexual Offences and Matters Amendment Act No:32 of 2007, the justice system took it very light so much that perpetrators were receiving minor verdict of trial cases of which most of GBV cases were not reported at all. Siyaphila is rendering GBV awareness campaigns and workshops that are implemented specifically for adolescent girls and young women and PLWHIV and other key population groups such as Sex Workers.
